Salam Alaikum and Kia ora,
My name is Humaira Hakeemi. I am a Wellbeing Practitioner with the Muslim Wellbeing Team at Purapura Whetu, where I support individuals and families to enhance their wellbeing and navigate life’s challenges. Originally from Afghanistan, I have called Christchurch home for the past 18 years, which has shaped my deep understanding of diverse communities and the importance of culturally responsive support.
I hold a Master’s degree in Child and Family Psychology, and my work is grounded in a strong commitment to empowering individuals, strengthening families, and promoting mental health and resilience.
In addition to my professional role, I serve as the voluntary Chairperson of the Christchurch Refugee Steering Committee. In this role, I advocate for refugee communities and work to ensure their voices are heard in both local and national decision-making processes.
I am passionate about supporting communities to thrive, fostering inclusion, and creating meaningful pathways for wellbeing and belonging.
