Suhayla Ashgari

Muslim Wellbeing Practitioner

Languages: TBC

Kia ora and Salam aleikom. My name is Suhayla. I was born in Afghanistan, and have spent most of my life in Aotearoa as many had to flee Afghanistan during the 90’s. Taliban were in power during that time and living under their regime was impossible for my family and millions of other Afghans.

I enjoy spending time with my whānau, especially my nieces, nephews, and friends. Travelling and hiking are my go-to therapy when I need a break.

I am very passionate about helping others which led me to pursue my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Canterbury.

It is an absolute privilege to work in a kaupapa Māori organisation, as there are a lot of shared values between Muslims and Māori.
